Traditional Kataifi Dessert

The most classic of syrup desserts, traditional walnut kataifi recipe with its crispy texture.

Traditional homemade walnut kataifi is an indispensable dessert for holidays and special gatherings. We share the secrets of preparing a perfect kadaif with the right syrup consistency and crispy texture.

Ingredients:

  • 500g fresh tel kataifi
  • 200g butter
  • 1 cup ground walnuts
  • For syrup: 4 cups sugar, 4 cups water, a few drops of lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. First prepare the syrup. Boil water and sugar. When it starts to boil, add lemon juice and simmer for 15 minutes, then let it cool.
  2. Melt the butter. Separate the shredded kataifi with your hands and mix with melted butter.
  3. Spread half of the kataifi on a baking tray and pack it.
  4. Sprinkle ground walnuts on top. Spread the remaining kataifi over the walnuts and press down firmly again.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until golden brown (about 35-40 minutes).
  6. Pour the cold syrup over the hot baked kadaif. Slice and serve after it absorbs the syrup.
